Learn a new advanced laboratory experiment well enough to teach it - with confidence!

See the ALPhA Laboratory Immersions wiki page for more information about these and past experiments.

ALPhA’s Laboratory Immersion experiences provide participants with two to three days of intensive hands-on work with a single advanced laboratory experiment. Enrollment is limited to two to three participants per experiment to ensure a confidence-building experience. The offerings for spring and summer 2017 are shown below.

Equipment grants are available to Immersion participants.

The Jonathan F. Reichert Foundation has established a grant program to help purchase apparatus used in Laboratory Immersions. Limitations and exclusions apply, but generally speaking the foundation may support up to 40% of the cost of the required equipment.

June 6–8, 2017, at Harvey Mudd College
Claremont, CA

Mentors: Theresa Lynn and Richard Haskell

June 12–16, 2017, at the University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, MI

Do five experiments in five days. Due to the simpler nature of these modern physics experiments, compared to the usual advanced lab experiment, participants enroll for all five and work through one experiment each day.

Carl Akerlof and Ramón Torres-Isea are your mentors.

June 13–15, 2017, at Colgate University
Hamilton, NY

Enrique ‘Kiko’ Galvez, a leader in this field, mentors this session.
